한·EU FTA 10주년 성과와 시사점

 

1. 지금으로부터 10년 전인 2011년 7월 1일에 우리나라는 아시아 국가들 중 최초로 유럽연합(EU)과의 자유무역협정(FTA)을 발효했다.

the free trade agreement between South Korea and the European Union came into effect, with Korea becoming the first Asian country to implement an FTA with the EU.

2. FTA 발효 직후 있었던 유럽의 재정위기 속에서도 EU의 대(對) 한국 수입은 2010년 이후 4년간 연평균 0.1% 증가해 비슷한 수준을 유지한 반면에, FTA가 체결되지 않은 일본으로부터의 수입은 같은 기간 연평균 4.9% 줄었다.

Despite the European debt crisis, the EU’s imports from Korea increased an annual average of 0.1 percent for four years since 2010. In contrast, the EU’s imports from Japan decreased an annual average of 4.9 percent during the cited period. Considering that the EU and Japan had not yet concluded an FTA at the time, the Korea-EU FTA did play a certain role.

3. Korean exports of chemical products to the EU also came to 7.1 billion dollars last year, increasing nearly 20 percent annually from 1.2 billion dollars in 2010. 

화학제품 수출도 2010년 12억 달러에서 지난해 71억 달러로 연평균 20% 가까이 늘었다.

4. 최근 EU가 환경·인권 기준을 높이고 중국 의존도를 낮추기 위해 공급망을 재편하고 있는 것은 우리 기업에 긍정적인 요소로 평가된다. 

The EU is reshaping supply chains and strengthening environmental and human rights standards to reduce its dependence on China. This is seen as a positive factor for Korean companies

5. 삼성전자는 4분기 매출과 영업이익이 전분기보다 감소했음에도 불구하고 견조한 실적을 기록했다.

Samsung Electronics has estimated a solid performance for the fourth quarter although its sales and operating profit declined from the previous quarter.
